Desire Line

Warm Springs Trail, Ketchum, Idaho
2018
Stainless steel, aluminum, etched and laminated art glass
10' x 89' x 3"
Commissioned by the Ketchum Arts Commission

Desire Line is a block-long glass installation along the Warm Springs Trail, one of the town's premier urban trails. Bold blocks of etched and laminated art glass, set in stainless steel and aluminum, catch the attention of people hiking, biking, and skiing past in every season.

The etched imagery shows the local flora and fauna alongside images of human intervention in the landscape, setting the natural world and the built one side by side. We worked with community members to choose the images that best reflected their own experience of the trail. The title borrows the planners' term for a path worn by people choosing their own way, a fitting name for a work that lives beside a well-traveled route.
