Commissioned by Oregon Arts Commission and the University of Oregon, for the campus recreation center in Eugene, Transitional Objects features 14 mirror boxes hung salon-style in the main hallway. Visible from all levels, each box is lined with mirror panels and lit internally. Nine sports — badminton, basketball, climbing, football, soccer, tennis, track, volleyball, weightlifting — are represented by 3D-printed equipment. This “equipment” scales larger or smaller than real-life counterparts. In addition, specialty archival paints and handmade nets convey artistic care; two-way mirrors create infinite repetition. Seemingly weightless yet heavily-weighted, this installation-in-suspension meshes athletic determination with movement and wonderment.
